Types of Filling in Insulated Garment and How to Wash Them

Types of Insulated Garment Filling Materials:

The types of filling materials are mainly divided into: PP cotton, polyethylene foam, down like polyfiber, synthetic down, spraying polyester etc.

PP cotton:

PP cotton also known as polypropylene fiber or hollow cotton , has the characteristics of good resilience, smooth touch and good warmth retention. It is mainly used for filling plush toys or thicker cotton clothes.

Polyethylene foam

Polyethylene foam also know as EPE, is a granular cotton that can be widely used in various industries after processing. In the production of puffer jacket, the fluffiness of the cotton is determined according to the size of the cotton particles and the quality of the cotton yarn. The quality of small particles is better than that of large particles. The characteristics of EPE are good warmth retention, lightweight, and the ability to restore its fluffiness after washing.

Down like polyfiber

Because of special processing, texture like down, so called down like polyfiber.It is light, thin, delicate and soft to the touch, has good heat preservation, is not easy to deform or leak, and has better warmth retention than down of the same weight, sodown like polyfiber is widely used. It can be divided into long filaments and short filaments. Long filaments: the filaments are relatively long, especially white, delicate, soft, and have good fluffiness. Short filaments: the filaments are relatively short, relatively soft, and do not deform after washing.

Synthetic down

Synthetic down is made of ultra-fine silicon-containing hollow short fibers as the main raw material, combined with some heat-capacity short fibers. The finished product contains very little glue. After calendering and ironing, the surface of the synthetic down is smooth, mercerized, light, thin, delicate, soft, good heat preservation, extremely strong water washability, not easy to deform, fiber will not running, feel like down feather, fine texture, surface like silk, tensile, soft, etc. It will not deform after repeated washing in the washing machine. It is a suitable filling material for water-washed and sand-washed insulated jacket; it is suitable for high-end cold-proof clothing, fine fabric clothing, bedding and filling for high-end winter jacket, etc. It is an ideal choice to replace down as filling cotton.

Spraying polyester cotton

Spraying polyester filling, also known as spray-bonded cotton, is a type of nonwoven fabric, commonly known as space cotton or vacuum cotton . It is made of natural cotton fiber, man-made fiber or synthetic fiber through loosening, combing, spraying, baking and curing. Because of its fluffy, high compression resilience, resistance to dry and wet washing, light weight and warmth retention, it has become an important material for processing and manufacturing insulated clothes,ski jackets, padded jackets,sleeping bags and other bedding and some industrial products in recent years.

How to Wash Insulated Clothing?

1. Hand wash

Inside the padded jacket, there is a small label with care and washing instructions. 90% of the (coated) padded jackets are marked to be hand washed, and dry-cleaned or machine-washed are strictly prohibited, because the chemicals used for dry-cleaning will affect the warmth retention and age the fabric. Machine washing and spin drying will easily cause the filling to be uneven, causing the clothes to lose their shape, affecting their appearance and warmth retention.

2. Rinse with warm water

In addition to hand washing, you also need to pay attention to the washing process. Insulated clothes are usually washed with warm water, because warm water can make the detergent work more effectively. After soaking the puffer clothes, gently rub the cuffs, collar and other easily dirty parts of the puffer clothes with your hands. You can use a brush to brush large areas. Rinse with water in time and be sure to dry them in the sun.

3. Do not wring out before drying

The most worrying thing about insulated clothes is that the filling fluff piles up in clumps. After washing, we can choose to lay them flat or vertically to dry them, but the most important thing to note is that you must not wring them.

4. Do not expose to the sun

Insulated clothes cannot be "force-dried" under strong sunlight, because this will damage the warmth retention of the insulated garment. It is usually recommended that you avoid the sun between 12 noon and 2 pm.
