1.Waterproof: This is the job of your garment’s membrane (e.g., GORE-TEX), which blocks water from entering entirely.

2.Water Repellent (DWR): This is the first defense. It causes water to bead up and roll off the surface instead of soaking into the outer fabric.

Why Does DWR Matter?

1.Maintains Breathability: If the outer fabric gets soaked (a process called “wetting out”), it can clog the pores of the waterproof membrane. This traps body heat and moisture inside, making you feel clammy.

1.Wash: Use a dedicated technical cleaner (like our Tech Wash) to thoroughly clean the garment. This removes all dirt, oils, and old detergent residues that block DWR. Never use fabric softener or standard detergent!

2.Apply: Use a DWR reproofer (spray-on or wash-in formula). For spray-on, apply evenly to the damp, clean garment. For wash-in, add it to the washing machine.

3.Activate with Heat: Tumble dry on a medium heat for 15-20 minutes. The heat is crucial for curing the new DWR and bonding it to the fibers.
